Drip Irrigation

A drip irrigation system is exactly what it sounds like—a watering system that drips moisture at intervals for plants and grass. The positive of drip irrigation is that it can be effective in watering plants and shrubs in landscape beds since it directs water right to the roots.

Be sure your landscaper is careful about the amount of water that drips as too little can cause plants to grow shallow roots instead of deep roots.

Sprinkler Irrigation

In sprinkler irrigation, the waterfalls from above the grass and plants water the landscape. The landscape installation team will dig trenches in which the pipes lay to carry water to the yard and nearby spaces.

At intervals are irrigation sprinklers that rise up out of the ground to spray the water over the lawn. An important part of having a sprinkler irrigation system is having your landscaper monitor where the water is actually going. Oftentimes, the sprinkler head is misaligned and is watering the walkway or the driveway, which results in waste and a high water bill for you.

When the sprinkler heads are accurate, they deliver the right amount of moisture to keep your lawn thriving.

Irrigation Volume

Some irrigation systems can be adjusted to produce more water volume in one area than in another. This can be helpful for differentiating between shady and full sun parts of the lawn. The shady spots don’t need as much water as the sunbaked spaces of the lawn so some irrigation systems are adjustable for the water volume. In this way, they put less water in space and more in others while still working for the same amount of time.

Smart Irrigation

As with most everything these days, your landscaper can install a smart irrigation system that can be monitored and maintained with the touch of a screen. A sprinkler system can waste as much as 50% of the water that comes out of the sprinkler heads and the goal is to make better use of the water.

A smart irrigation system operates differently from the sprinkler system that is on a timer for each zone. Instead, this system monitors the amount of rain your lawn has received, the evaporation levels, and the soil condition to deliver the ideal amount of water to each section of the grass. It actually adjusts the watering the site conditions.

There are two types of smart irrigation systems. One is weather-based in that it monitors the temperature and amount of rain to automatically water the right amount. The other is soil-based in which the system monitors the soil moisture to deliver the correct water amount.

Choosing an irrigation system is a big decision and no small investment. This is why having a trusted landscape professional help you can give you the irrigation system you need for your unique property.
